The Gauteng Health Department says the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital is down referring patients to district hospitals in order to reduce waiting lists and times. The Department says medical personnel at district hospitals are assisted by specialist from the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.  Different hospitals within Gauteng districts have been authorised to perform different operations.
