Beneficiaries to receive grants from October 30 as agency adjusts schedule to minimise election period disruptions

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has revised its social grant payment schedule for November 2026, bringing forward payments ahead of the Local Government Elections scheduled for November 4.

In a statement, the agency said the adjustment followed consultations with various stakeholders to ensure the efficient and secure administration of social grants, while minimising disruptions during the election period.

National Treasury has approved the revised arrangements, paving the way for the agency to implement the new payment schedule.

Under the revised timetable, the Older Persons Grant will be paid on Friday, October 30, followed by the Disability Grant on Monday, November 2. Children’s grants will be paid on Tuesday, November 3, a day before the elections.

SASSA said the changes were intended to support the orderly administration of grant payments around the elections and ensure beneficiaries continued to receive their social assistance reliably.

“The agency remains committed to ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their grants in an orderly and reliable manner,” the statement read.

The agency has also reminded beneficiaries whose grants are under review to respond to official communication and attend review appointments when requested.

A separate payment date has been scheduled for Thursday, November 5, specifically for beneficiaries whose grants fall within the review process.

SASSA urged beneficiaries to avoid unnecessary visits to its offices, saying payments would be processed in accordance with the revised schedule.

It also encouraged the public to rely on the agency’s official communication channels for accurate information and to guard against misinformation and disinformation about social grants.

The revised timetable comes as preparations continue for the November 4 local government elections, when voters across South Africa will elect representatives to municipal councils.

SASSA reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of the social assistance system while maintaining access to grants for millions of South Africans who depend on the support.
