The Madadeni Regional Court has on Tuesday 16 October 2018 sentenced a 53 year old man to 18 years imprisonment for raping his brother’s grandchild.

According to Police in KZN, the child (5 years at the time) was raped in July 2013 at home when she was left with her grandfather’s brother.

The victim reported the matter to her grandmother and a case of rape was opened at Madadeni police station.

After the case was opened, the docket was assigned to the Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.

In January 2018, after an intensive investigation by the FCS Unit, the accused was arrested after the investigating officer established that he was hiding at a certain farm in the Free State Province.
