The trio aged 28 and 32 were arrested by Pinetown police on Monday 15 October 2018 for theft of R1.8 million. They conned a 57 year old teacher of her pension payout and they are expected to appear in court today 17 October 2018.
The whole incident started in January 2018, and the case was opened in September 2018.
The two men first asked her to pay an amount of 20 000 for cleansing water for her and her boyfriend who is currently being sought by police, so that they can get married.
According to KwaZulu-Natal Police Captain Nqobile Gwala, “In May 2018, her boyfriend advised her to resign so that they can start a business, indeed she resigned and when she received her pension pay-out she gave it all to the boyfriend and his allies. The trio were arrested with the help of the community in Pinetown as they were looking for a place to rent”.
An identification parade will held today 17 October 2018 at Durban central SAPS. Pinetown police appeal to members of the community who might have fallen victim of the same scam to come forward and urgently contact Lieutenant Colonel Mwelase 083 661 0358.
