The Special Tribunal has ordered businessman Hamilton Ndlovu and his companies to pay back at least R158 million in monies gained from unlawful and irregular personal protective equipment (PPE) tenders. Ndlovu benefitted at least R172 million from some 19 National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) PPE tenders. South Africa’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 1.9% in the first quarter of 2022. Addressing media on Tuesday, Statistician General Risenga Maluleke said in the first three months of the year, the manufacturing industry increased by 4.9%, contributing 0.6 of a percentage point to GDP growth. “Seven of the 10 manufacturing divisions reported positive growth rates in the first quarter. Cabinet has approved changes to the Adjusted Alert Level 1 COVID-19 regulations as South Africa has exited the fourth wave nationally. The changes came after meetings of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) and the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC), which received updates on the management of COVID-19 in South Africa. The Orkney Magistrates’ Court deferred the case against eighty-seven(87) suspects who are facing charges related to illegal mining at shaft 2 in Orkney. The accused will now appear at the Regional Court in Stilfontein on 02 March 2022, and for the police to conduct further investigations.
