Open fields, streets, parking areas and abandoned buildings are notorious for being number one murder spots in South Africa.

This was revealed by Police Minister, Bheki Cele when releasing the Country’s quarterly crime statistics on Friday, 18 February 2022.

The total murders recorded during the reporting period is 6859 of which 2599 were murdered at these places.

Instead of being the most secure off all the places, South African homes are the second most likely place for you to get murdered.

Another place you are most likely to get murdered at is unfortunately where most people go to chill, have fun, release the stress or just hang out with friends. That is of course at the liquor outlets.

Cele said the top four causative factors of deaths are arguments, vigilantism, robberies and revenge or retaliation.

In terms of the Province with most recorded cases of murder for the reporting period, the North West has claimed the top spot while the Free State and the Western Cape have both recorded the least number of murders.
