President Mnangagwa visited the country’s busiest port, Beitbridge Border Post for a groundbreaking ceremony in Matebeleland South on Wednesday 11 July 2018.

He officiated the upgrading and modernisation of the border post which connect Zimbabwe and the neighbouring South Africa.

The Beitbridge border post is to go through a $241 million renovation and upgrade which is expected to tranquillize traffic flow; and as part of the Zimbabwean Government’s enterprise to facilitate proficiency of doing the business, to uplift trade, revenue, tourism and commerce.

Recently the President said Cabinet had approved the renovation, extension and the upgrading of the border post. The President said he had since met with the directors of the company that won the tender to upgrade the border post.

When he addressed the populace in Gwanda at Phelandaba Stadium, President ED said that the New Admistration’s re-engagement priority has seen Zimbabwe joining Zambia and Botswana in the construction of Kazungula Bridge.

He addressed myriads of of Zanu-PF fans who gathered at Dulivhadzimu Stadium after commissioning a $241 million renovation and extension of the busiest port in the SADC region.

He told the adoring populace in Beitbridge that he was colossally impressed by the turnout albeit another rally in the district by Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga.

I am pleased by the high turnout here because I had not planned to address a rally today as you know Vice President Chiwenga had another rally nearby. But when I heard about the huge turnout here, I said as a servant leader I can’t just go without coming here to greet and talk to you. I hope on July 30 you will turn out in your numbers to vote for your President, MPs and councillors. The party is very strong in Matabeleland South; it is a pillar of the party and I urge you to remain like that.

The upbeat Mnangagwa had earlier told the local Herald Newspaper that as the governing party, they are not worried about how they will fare in the Country’s coming elections.

We have opened up democratic space in this country and there are many political parties; 133 of them, so that the game becomes enjoyable but we don’t want any violence. Why should we be worried by these small parties with little following? So from today you should know that all the leaders up front here are your servants. Any leader who doesn’t do that you should let me know and I will fire them. Leaders should know that they are servants of the people.
Even I as President I am a servant. So who should not be a servant if I am a servant of the people? We derive authority from you the people so you have power over us because you are the ones who bestow authority on us.

Mr Glynn Cohen, the ZimBorder Chairman also said the upgrading and the modernisation of the border post will ensure that the way of caring out business is in tandem with President Mnangagwa’s mantra “Zimbabwe is open for business”.
