Police have arrested a suspect and his accomplice for the murders of seven people whose bodies were found at a house in Vlakfontein on 29 October 2018.
According to Gauteng Police Spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo, the provincial team investigating serious and violent crimes, on 1 November 2018, responded to information which led the team to Mpumalanga near the Lebombo border post.
“A 27-year-old male suspect was arrested and in his possession were bank cards belonging to two of the seven victims. On further investigation, a second suspect, a 61-year- old male, was traced and arrested in Dobsonville.”
Masondo further says the 27-year old suspect will face additional charges of rape. Both suspects will appear in court tomorrow, Monday 05 November 2018.
Gauteng Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Max Masha has commented police for swift action in arresting the suspects.
“These arrests will go a long way in proving to those who continue to undermine the authority of the State and that police mean business when we say that we will prioritise cases against women and children. The investigating team must now ensure that the case is watertight towards a successful conviction.”
The bodies of Vlakfontein Seven comprising three women and four children aged between 2 and 11, were discovered Monday 29 October 2018 buried under a pile of sand in a backroom and a bedroom of a main house.
