BOTLOKWA, CAPRICORN DISTRICT – In a significant operation to combat crime and restore public safety, police have detained four individuals linked to a spate of robberies in the Botlokwa area. The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, 24 September 2024, during a coordinated intelligence-driven operation.

According to Police Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the gang, whose members range in age from 19 to 44, is accused of instilling fear in the community by committing armed robberies near shopping centers and gas stations. Utilizing knives to intimidate their victims, they have been a persistent threat to locals frequenting these areas.

A meticulous investigation by the authorities into the recent surge of thefts led to the successful apprehension of the suspects at a local shopping complex. The operation also resulted in the recovery of various stolen goods, including a laptop and multiple cellphones, which had been sold off. Investigators are following up on solid leads to reclaim additional stolen property.

The accused are scheduled for a court appearance at the Botlokwa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 26 September 2024. They face a total of 11 charges, all pertaining to robbery with the use of a weapon other than a firearm.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests.
