In a commendable display of swift response, the OR Tambo District Task Team (DTT) successfully apprehended four suspects involved in the robbery of a courier bakkie along the R61 between Mthatha and Baziya A/A over the weekend, Acting OR Tambo District Commissioner Brigadier Vukile Ntandane confirmed.

According to Captain Welile Matyolo, spokesperson for the OR Tambo District Police, the operation was bolstered by the cooperation of a tracker company, enabling DTT members to track down the suspects to the Gotyubeni locality. There, law enforcement personnel arrested four individuals, aged between 28 and 30 years old. During the apprehension, police recovered a PX4 pistol and live rounds from one of the suspects. Additionally, all stolen goods, valued at approximately R100,000.00, were successfully retrieved and are currently being identified by their rightful owners. Two vehicles implicated in the robbery were also seized at the Gotyubeni locality.

The suspects are slated to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate Court tomorrow, 08 July 2024, to face charges related to the robbery.

Brigadier Vukile Ntandane expressed his appreciation for the diligent efforts of the OR Tambo District Task Team, emphasizing their commitment to protecting the community and its property. “We will continue to work tirelessly as police officials to ensure that the people of this country and their properties are well protected, and that those who violate their constitutional rights are brought to justice,” concluded Brigadier Ntandane.
