The Provincial Government aims to come up with integrated interventions and plans to reconstruct and revive the economy of the Province across the key sectors of the economy

The North West Provincial Government will on Monday, 30th November 2020 be hosting an engagement session with the industry leaders to assess the impact of Covid-19 on the economy of the province and come up with integrated interventions and plans to reconstruct and revive the economy of the Province across the key sectors of the economy.

The Provincial Government said the engagement will respond to Covid-19 situation and ensure a coordinated collaboration between government, the private sector and other social partners to come up with short and long term interventions and solutions to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 on the economy.

“In responding to this situation as the Provincial government we felt that it will be of utmost importance for a coordinated collaboration between all stakeholders including the social partners to identify priority areas to rebuild the economy as well as structural reforms which will enable sustainable and inclusive growth focusing on job creation.

Our intention is to develop a detailed implementation that will allow both government and private sector to allocate resources to re-engineer the creation of sustainable jobs and fast track the economic recovery”, said Premier Job Mokgoro.

Mokgoro reiterated the fact that it is government’s responsibility to create an enabling environment in terms of physical and institutional factors to attract and retain investment in the North West province which will result in the reduction of unemployment especially to young people as future leaders of the country.

Amongst the presentations will be the report by the North West University highlighting the economic status of the province post COVID 19 and what strategies can be put in place to rebuild the economy.

The engagement is to be led by the Premier Mokgoro, his Executive Council as well as national and local government leaders. Also in attendance will be leaders of the key industries of the provincial economy, representatives of higher learning institutions, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and small businesses across all the sectors.
