The Democratic Alliance in Gauteng has condemned what the party called the “criminal behavior and xenophobia” happening in the Pretoria CBD. The party has furthermore called on the police to urgently restore order, as the looting and torching of foreign owned shops continued on Wednesday.
Violence in the City erupted after one taxi driver was killed Tuesday 27 August 2019, apparently by one of the Nigerian drug dealers when taxi drivers confronted dealers.
Taxi operators have alleged that drugs are being peddled by foreign shop owners and the DA has said in a statement that if this is indeed the case, it must be reported to the law enforcement authorities, which in turn must act swiftly.
The Party has called on Citizens not to take the law into their own hands and become criminals themselves.
Everyone has the right to express their dissatisfaction through legal protests but it does not give them the right to vandalise property and loot shops. This is pure criminality.
