Communities in parts of Naledi Municipality, notably Huhudi and surrounds in Vryburg have been complaining that water shortage in their areas was a deliberate act meant to benefit water tankers.

In his address after being inaugurated as North West Premier on Monday 27 May 2019, Professor Job Mokgoro admitted to such practice.

We came across communities that had little or no provision of adequate, clean drinking water such as we found in Vryburg and neighbouring towns – the sad part about this matter was that it was no fault of government but because a certain clique of individuals who deliberately sabotaged water supply so that they and their cohorts can benefit out of the alternative water tankering system that would necessarily be activated in instances of water shortage.

Mokgoro and his team of MEC’s had in April 2019 met with different stakeholders and communities in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality in what the Office of the Premier said at the time, was:

with a view to coming with lasting solutions to challenges affecting the delivery of services in the district.

Mokgoro has during his Inauguration Speech talked tough against water sabotage and committed to deal decisively with people who will be found to be perpetuating such practise.

With these, they will be siphoning millions of Rands in this well-orchestrated scheme while antagonising the community of Vryburg and others to lay the blame on government’s door step.

For Communities in Naledi and other Municipalities in North West who have for a long time faced water shortages, Mokgoro’s commitment to improve provision of water will hopefully bring some comfort that their water woes will finally be over.
