Mogalakwena Municipality is warning residents about unsolicited scam e-mails and text messages purported to be sent from a person who identifies himself/herself as Cllr Hlengani Samuel Mathebula, the Speaker for Mogalakwena Municipality.

According to the Municipality’s Malesela Selokela, the person offers people false employment opportunities for R850.00 at the Mogalakwena Anglo Platinum Mine and tell them to meet with him at the Mogalakwena municipal premises in order to defraud them of money.

“We are taking this matter extremely seriously, Cllr Mathebula has on Wednesday opened a case at Mahwelereng Police Station (Case no 2188/10/2018) and the municipality is currently working with the appropriate law enforcement authorities to bring the fraudsters into book.”

The Municipality has advised the residents that Cllr Mathebula is not and cannot be a recruitment agent for Mogalakwena Anglo Platinum Mine thus he has no link or influence with the mine’s Human Resource department.

“We take this opportunity to remind the community members that the municipality has never used text messages or emails to prospective job seekers or request them to pay money prior the interviews. If this happens to you kindly note that it is a scam.

If you receive an email, text message or phone call offering you job opportunity’s from a person who identifies himself as Cllr Mathebula and representing Mogalakwena Anglo Platinum Mine kindly visit your local law enforcement authorities and provide them with all information you may have.”
