The Gauteng Provincial Government has instituted an investigation into alleged financial mismanagement involving its Sustainable Livelihood Programme.
The investigation follows after the government uncovered gross financial mismanagement involving some of the NPO’s that the Province’s Social Development had contracted to manage the Sustainable Livelihood Programme.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura has said in a statement that some of the NPO’s affected, have raised concerns that non renewal of the contracts with the Province will adversely affect their beneficiaries, most of whom are poor and vulnerable.
The Premier is convening a meeting with the relevant MECs and Heads of Department to receive a full briefing on the Sustainable Livelihood Programme…A full forensic investigation is now underway to establish the extent of the mismanagement of public funds intended for the poor
The briefing with MECs and Heads of Department will include discussion of measures being taken to ensure continued rendering of services to the Sustainable Livelihood Programme in the period where government is probing issues of financial mismanagement.
The affected NPO’s are Bokamoso Development Centre, Fountain of Life, Carol Shaw, Siyabonga Africa and Agelang Sechaba.
