Uitenhage bank teller arrested for theft and fraud

The suspect, a woman aged 35 targeted bank accounts of elderly people who were mostly pensioners.

Police in Eastern Cape have arrested a bank teller in Uitenhage for fraud and theft.

The suspected who according to the Police is facing 25 counts of fraud and 6 counts of theft, was arrested on Monday 22 June 2020.

The 35-year-old woman was arrested at her house in Rosedale (Uitenhage) following a month long investigation allegedly linking her to several incidents of fraud and theft which occurred between August 2019 and May 2020.

Police said a case was opened after bank authorities became suspicious of improper transactions from several customers’ accounts. 

It is further alleged that the suspect targeted bank accounts of elderly people who were mostly pensioners.

The woman was granted R600 bail and will make her first court appearance on Wednesday, 1 July 2020 in Uitenhage.
