Eight security guards have been arrested following the shooting of taxi drivers at the Brakpan City Centre.

The Victims went to have a meeting with taxi association executives. Four of the drivers were killed and and six others wounded.

The police seized 10 firearms including six rifles and four pistols, and the police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.

According to the police, the shooting follows alleged conflict between the taxi drivers and association executive over taxi routes between Tsakane and Brakpan.

It is suspected that the taxi drivers who came to have a meeting with executive of Greater Brakpan Taxi Association were shot at by the security guards hired by association. Three taxi drivers died at scene, one died on arrival at the hospital and six others are still being treated for gunshot wounds at the local hospital.

All confiscated firearms will be sent for ballistic examination and the suspects are expected to be taken to court on charges of murder and attempted murder. Further investigations are continuing.
