An off-duty police officer (54) from Umlazi detectives was shot dead in the Malukazi area in Isipingo at 22:30 Monday night, the 18th of June 2018.

According to a media statement released by the South African Police Service, the officer was seated in his vehicle with a companion when they were attacked. It is alleged
that at least six unknown suspects approached them and forced the detective out of his vehicle.

He was then shot and he died on the spot. His companion was also wounded during the incident. The police office’s firearm was taken by the suspect before fleeing the scene with their gateway vehicle.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has condemned the latest killing of a police officer.

“We will not rest until the perpetrators of this abhorrent crime are brought to book” he said, adding that the Provincial Organised Crime Unit has been tasked to investigate the case. Mkhwanazi also expressed his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the officer. He also appealed to the community to assist with the investigation.
