    R214 million set aside to address sewer spillages and other infrastructure challenges

    The Mpumalanga Provincial Government has set aside R214 Million to address a long standing sewer and related infrastructure problems in the Province. This was revealed Friday 22 February 2019 by the Provincial Premier Refilwe Mtshweni during the State of the Province address.

    Govan Mbeki, Msukaligwa and Lekwa local Municipalities have been hard hit by the problem of sewerage spillages which led to protest marches by the opposition Democratic Alliance.

    Mtshweni has acknowledged the sewer spillages and have assured the residents that the Provincial Government is addressing them.

    We have intervened in identified Municipalities to alleviate the suffering of our people caused by sewer spillages. We are currently attending to the problem of sewerage spillages in Embalenhle and Leandra in Govan Mbeki Local Municipality, Wesselton Extension 32; 33 and 34 in Msukaligwa Local Municipality and Standerton Extension 8 in Lekwa Local Municipality
