South African police have seized more than 27,000 Mandrax tablets during an intelligence driven operation in Parow, adding to a separate arrest in Goodwood in which officers recovered 18½ Mandrax tablets.
Police said the first operation took place on Wednesday, September 9, when members followed up on intelligence and arrived at a residence in Da Gama Street, Parow.

A thorough search of the premises resulted in the discovery of 27,270 Mandrax tablets, police said. A 39-year-old Zimbabwean man was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs and detained at Parow police station.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Parow Magistrate’s Court once he has been formally charged.
In a separate operation the previous night, on Tuesday, September 8, police conducting a stop and search operation in Cook Street, Goodwood, arrested a 28 year old man after finding 18½ Mandrax tablets in his pockets.
He was detained at Goodwood police station and is also expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court once charged.
The arrests highlight continued police efforts to disrupt the possession and distribution of illicit drugs in communities across the Western Cape.
Thembakazi Mpendukana, speaking on behalf of the South African Police Service, said the operations demonstrated the vigilance and commitment of police members in the fight against crime in the province.
Police have not indicated whether the two cases are connected.
