A multi agency law enforcement operation aimed at curbing crime and enforcing municipal regulations has been launched across several Rustenburg communities, local authorities announced today.

The initiative, known as Operation Shanela, commenced following a joint parade at Tlhabane Police Station and brings together a range of law enforcement and security agencies, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), Rustenburg Local Municipality’s Municipal Law Enforcement Unit, the Rustenburg Rapid Response Brigade (RBA), and immigration officials.

Municipal officials said the operation is designed to strengthen crime prevention efforts and ensure compliance with national legislation and municipal by laws. Authorities will focus on enforcing laws such as the Criminal Procedure Act, Firearms Control Act, Liquor Act, Dangerous Weapons Act and the Second Hand Goods (Dealers) Act.

Law enforcement teams have been deployed to conduct crime prevention patrols and compliance inspections in areas identified as crime hotspots. The targeted communities include Tlhabane, Zinniaville, Rustenburg North and Lefaragatlha.

According to the municipality, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity, address lawlessness and improve public safety throughout the municipality’s jurisdiction.

Officials said coordinated operations involving multiple agencies have become an important strategy in addressing crime and ensuring that businesses and residents comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with law enforcement personnel and to continue reporting suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.

The municipality said it remains committed to working with law enforcement partners to create safer communities and maintain law and order across Rustenburg.
