Police in Marikana have arrested two men and recovered a range of stolen items in what authorities describe as a breakthrough in the investigation of two armed business robberies at a local guest house.

The suspects, identified as Lebale Goshini, 28, and Mokete Retshiditswe, 36, were arrested following investigations into robberies that took place in December 2025 and May 2026.

According to Rustenburg police spokesperson Warrant Officer Ofentse Mokgadi, security officers at the guest house were allegedly threatened with firearms and restrained during both incidents while suspects stole various items from the premises.

Detectives investigating the cases subsequently gathered information that led to the recovery of property believed to have been stolen during the robberies. Recovered items included generators, plasma televisions, a computer, a printer, a sound system, speakers, copper cable and a gas cylinder.

Police also added charges of perjury against the suspects as investigations progressed.

The Acting District Commissioner of the Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2, Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, praised the investigating team for their work.

“The arrests and recovery of stolen property demonstrate the South African Police Service’s commitment to bringing criminals to justice,” Ntoagae said.

The two accused made their first appearance in the Marikana Magistrate’s Court on May 29. The case was postponed to June 4 to allow for formal bail applications.

Business robberies remain a significant concern for law enforcement in South Africa, with police continuing efforts to combat organised criminal activity targeting commercial premises. Authorities have indicated that investigations into the Marikana incidents are ongoing and that further arrests have not been ruled out.

The suspects remain in custody pending the outcome of their bail applications.
