A new luxury accommodation venture has officially opened its doors in Khayelitsha, as South Africa’s tourism sector continues its strong recovery.

According to South African Tourism, the country welcomed more than 10 million international visitors between January and December 2025, a 17.6% increase compared to 2024 and the highest number on record. Domestic travel also grew, with passenger numbers rising by 7% to 7.8 million.

Riding this wave, local businessman Luzuko Mteto has launched Mteto’s Child Villa, a high-end boutique accommodation offering aimed at both local and international visitors.

The villa opened on Friday, 3 April 2026.

Mteto, who also owns Spine Road Lifestyle, a well-known events and tourism attraction in the township, said the new venture aims to deliver a “home-away-from-home” experience with a focus on comfort and luxury.

“We want to focus on providing exceptional, luxurious and memorable township escape,” he said.

Located in the heart of Khayelitsha, the villa features five suites, two presidential suites and three standard luxury rooms. The design blends industrial and modern finishes, with concrete elements softened by wood, acrylic finishes and abstract art.

The property has been positioned as a sanctuary for travellers looking to experience authentic township culture without compromising on comfort.

Mteto said the interiors include custom-designed furniture, handmade crockery and curated artwork, adding that the term “luxury” is not used lightly.

“We appreciate that our guests are discerning and deserve to be spoiled,” he said.

The development is also expected to contribute to local job creation, with five permanent positions created at the villa. Mteto’s broader business operations already employ around 40 staff members, most of them young people from Khayelitsha.

Tourism remains a major contributor to the country’s economy, accounting for nearly 9% of GDP in 2025 and supporting approximately 1.8 million jobs. In Cape Town alone, the sector contributed R27.5 billion in 2024 and supported over 106,000 jobs.

The villa is located 24km from Cape Town International Airport and within driving distance of key attractions including the Cape Winelands, Muizenberg Beach, Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront.

Bookings are available through online platforms and the official website.
