Mamelodi Sundowns put on a commanding performance at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night, clinching a 3-0 victory over Cape Town City. This marks Sundowns’ first win against the Cape Town side since 2022 and a crucial rebound after a recent away loss.

Peter Shalulile’s brace and Lucas Ribeiro’s goal sealed the three points, with Shalulile scoring his first league goal of the season in the 16th minute, thanks to a clever assist from Ribeiro. The hosts extended their lead in the 37th minute when Khuliso Mudau’s cut-back found Ribeiro, who unleashed a powerful strike to make it 2-0. Shalulile rounded off the scoreline in the 52nd minute after linking up with Iqraam Rayners.

Sundowns’ goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, played a crucial role in maintaining the clean sheet, thwarting City’s late attempts. The victory secures Sundowns three valuable points as they look to build momentum in the league.
