Cllr Suzan Nthangeni was elected unopposed as the new Executive Mayor of Bojanala Platinum District Municipality. Her election comes after the municipality has been without a substantive Executive Mayor for over a year.

The absence of a permanent political leader led to Cllr Victoria Makhaula being elected as an interim Executive Mayor. Nthangeni’s election marks the end of this transitional period.

Cllr Nthangeni, who is no stranger to governance, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She previously served as a Councillor at Madibeng Local Municipality and as a Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) at Bojanala Platinum District Municipality.

In her acceptance speech, Cllr Nthangeni expressed her humility and readiness to take on the significant responsibilities ahead. “It is with a great sense of humility that I accept the privilege to be the political head of Bojanala Platinum District Municipality. I fully understand the mammoth task of service delivery that lies ahead,” she said.

She emphasized the importance of unity among councillors, regardless of political background or affiliation, in the interest of serving the communities of Bojanala District. “Ours is to attain an unqualified audit opinion through ethical leadership, while delivering quality and reliable services to our people. By doing so, we shall leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. We dare not fail them,” Cllr Nthangeni asserted.

She also took a moment to thank her predecessor, Cllr Victoria Makhaula, for her leadership during a challenging period of political uncertainty and transition. “I want to thank my predecessor, Cllr Victoria Makhaula, for keeping the municipality afloat during turbulent times of political uncertainty and through its transition,” she said.

In line with her new role, Cllr Nthangeni will be actively engaged in several community activities in honor of Nelson Mandela Day from July 18 to July 30, 2024. These activities include painting and renovating Madidi Clinic and Tshepang Old Age Home in Madibeng Local Municipality, renovating and repainting Thoriso Old Age Home in Moretele Local Municipality, and providing garden seedlings and tools to Kutlwanong Special School in Rustenburg Local Municipality.
