The North West Provincial Government will today engage with Country Bird following reports that this Chicken Company, based in Mahikeng, intends closing down.
Although the company has since refuted the reports, it was initially reported that the company had cited lack of service delivery from the municipality as reason for the closure which would result in the loss of estimated 2000 jobs.
The Provincial Government said that apart from its planned engagement with Country Bird, it is also putting a programme in place to engage with various sectors of organised business in the province in order to establish closer working relationships between Government and business.
Furthermore the Provincial Government said that they recognise that businesses have a significant contribution to make to the economy and that as Government they have responsibility to create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive, in order to contribute to socio-economic development and to sustainable livelihoods within the Provincial communities.
According to communication from the Provincial Government, today’s delegation to Country Bird’s engagement will comprise Premier Bushy Maape, Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Obed Bapela and other Government officials.
Country Bird’s move to stop operations in the Province comes after announced relocation of Clover to Kwa Zulu Natal from Lichtenburg this year.
Clover also cited lack of service delivery in the Province as the reason for their move.
