    Former Mpumalanga councilor arrested after violating bail conditions

    Nelspruit, Mpumalanga: Police in Mpumalanga have arrested a 41-year-old former Councillor of the Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality today 25 July 2019 on charges of defeating the ends of justice.

    According to the statement by Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, Thulani Obed Shabangu, is currently waiting for his trial to commence on 24 October 2019, on charges of corruption and fraud which include selling of houses.

    He was arrested on 18 December 2018 and released on a R50 000 bail two days later, with conditions, amongst others, that he may not contact witnesses.

    It is reported that the suspect violated one of the conditions of his bail and was arrested by the police in Amersfoort, as a result, he will appear tomorrow, 26 July 2019, at the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court.
