Two men from Mankweng appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Friday facing charges of murder and attempted murder in the shooting death of 25 year old Lekompo music producer Gadifele “Lastborn” Maimela.

Masheleng July Mashishi, 25, and Karabo Kgoroshi Lucas Mothiba, 27, are accused of forcing their way into a property in Polokwane on April 6, 2026, where a confrontation erupted after the victims confronted them at the gate.

According to National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mashudu Malabi, Maimela was with friends at his residence when they asked him to request a Bolt ride for them. After arranging the transport, Maimela accompanied his friends to the gate. There, they encountered Mashishi and Mothiba standing near the requested Bolt vehicle.

The two men allegedly forced entry into the yard. When confronted, a fight broke out, during which the suspects produced a firearm and opened fire. Maimela was fatally wounded and died from his injuries, while one of his friends sustained gunshot wounds but survived.

Police arrested the suspects the following day.

The case was postponed to April 16, 2026, for a formal bail application. Both accused remain in custody.
