In a chilling discovery on New Year’s Eve, Lindley police unearthed two decomposed bodies in a locked house in Ntha, a township near Lindley, Free State. The grisly scene was uncovered after neighbors alerted authorities to a foul odor emanating from the home, accompanied by swarms of flies seen through a window.

Officers responded to the complaint around 10 p.m. on December 31, 2024. Upon arrival, they found the house locked, but located the owner’s car parked at the property. When the homeowner refused to grant entry, police peered through a window and discovered the bodies on the floor, covered with a blanket.

Preliminary investigations suggest the deceased may be a woman and her minor child, last seen visiting the child’s father on December 22 in Lindley. DNA samples have been taken from the mother of the presumed victims to confirm their identities.

The suspect, who is believed to be the father of the minor, was taken into custody at the scene. Police are investigating the deaths as a double homicide.

“The condition of the bodies indicates they had been deceased for several days, making identification difficult,” a police spokesperson said. “Postmortem examinations will determine the cause of death.”

The case has sent shockwaves through the small township of Ntha and the nearby Mamafubedu community, where the victims are believed to have lived. Residents expressed grief and outrage over the tragic events.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Reitz Magistrate Court on January 3rd, 2025, to face charges of murder.
