Police in Mogwase have opened a case of murder after the discovery of 25 year old teacher, Khumontle Mokgosi’s body.

According to Police, Mokgosi’s body was found in her rented place at Magong Village near Mogwase on Monday 29 June 2020.

According to information at our disposal, the neighbours and members of the School Governing Body (SGB) conducted a search after the young teacher failed to report on duty. Consequently, Mokgosi’s lifeless body was found with hands and feet tied up. It is suspected that she was strangled.

The North West Department of Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela was deeply saddened and disheartened by the murder of Mokgosi.

According to the Department, She was originally from Makgobistad Village near Mafikeng, and was a Life Science teacher at Makoba Secondary School. After completing an Education degree in 2018 at the North West University, Mafikeng Campus, she joined teaching at the beginning of 2019.

North West Education MEC, Wendy Matsemela has expressed heartbreak at the news and has conveyed condolences to the family and the entire school community.

Matsemela said Mokgosi’s death is an unfortunate incident which happened at a time when the country is grappling from the chains of Gender Based Violence.

It is heart-breaking to lose a young teacher who could have had a long career in the teaching sector. Teachers play an important role of moulding the future of our country and as a society we need to take good care and protect them. A nation without teachers is a doomed society, teachers are a light to the community. I am appealing to the police to arrest the perpetrators of this heinous act. They should rot in jail.

North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena said it is disturbing that the life of such a young teacher was brought to an abrupt end by merciless criminal/s amid calls by all sectors of society that gender based violence must cease.
