Kayelitsha, Ocean View; Western Cape. Western Cape Police have on Thursday 18 July 2019 confiscated 920 litres of liquor in 31 Block, Makhaza, Khayelitsha.

According to statement released by Police Captain FC Van Wyk, the Police had been closely monitoring the place for some time and on several occasions did not find any liquor stored on the premises.

The members received information from an anonymous source and reacted on the information. A 45-year-old male suspect was arrested for dealing in liquor without a license. He is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate Court soon on the mentioned charges.

In another incident, an integrated operation between the members of Ocean View detectives and the members of the Department of Sea Fisheries led to the arrest of a 49-year-old man at Carnation Road Ocean View on Thursday 18 July 2019 for possession of abalone with an estimated street value of R50 000.

The suspect is expected to appear at Simonstown Magistrate Court on the charges.

On the same day, Police arrested two suspects aged 30 and 36 after a vehicle was hijacked in Kleinvlei.

Members attached to K9 Unit were on patrol when they received a broadcast of a hijacked vehicle in Kleinvlei. They were immediately on the lookout for the vehicle, a VW Polo Vivo. At approximately 20:45 they spotted the vehicle in Foni Street, 31 Block, Harare, Khayelitsha and a vehicle chase ensued. The occupants started shooting at the members who returned fire. The two occupants were wounded and were arrested. They are currently in hospital under police guard.

According to Van Wyk, two firearms and ammunition were confiscated.

The suspects are expected to make a court appearance in Khayelitsha Magistrate Court as soon as they are discharged from hospital.
