A 30-year-old man will be appearing at the KwaMsane Magistrate Court today 23 October 2018 for attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and suspected stolen property and common robbery.

It is alleged that on 29 September 2018 an off-duty police officer was at Mtubatuba CBD when he noticed the suspect robbing a woman of her belongings. He fought the suspect but the suspect managed to flee the scene. The officer ran after him and the suspect opened fire, wounding the officer on the abdomen. He was taken to hospital for medical attention and a case of attempted murder was opened at Mtubatuba South African Police Service.

After a comprehensive investigation, police officers proceeded to Shikishela area in KwaMsane where the suspect was hiding. On arrival the police found the suspect in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and ammunition. During the arrest he was also found in possession of four suspected stolen cell phones.
