Police across South Africa have been lauded for their swift and decisive actions in tackling violent crimes and illicit activities, resulting in multiple arrests over the festive season.
Ex-Boyfriend Arrested for Brutal Murder in Coligny
Petrus Bassion Mvala (47) was arrested in Coligny on Tuesday, 24 December 2024, for the alleged murder of his ex-girlfriend, Binny King (34). According to reports, Mvala called King to his vehicle in Extension 3, Tlhabologang, near Coligny, where she was allegedly stabbed over 15 times with a sharp instrument. Despite jumping out of the vehicle and being rushed to a clinic, King succumbed to her injuries.
Mvala appeared in the Lichtenburg Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 27 December 2024, and was remanded in custody until his next appearance on Monday, 30 December 2024. Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Major General Patrick Asaneng condemned the incident, reiterating the police’s commitment to addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Port St. Johns Police Arrest Shooting Suspect, Recover Illegal Firearms
In Majola near Port St. Johns, a 31-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, 26 December 2024, for the attempted murder of his wife, who was shot on Saturday, 21 December 2024. During questioning, the suspect led police to two men, aged 39 and 41, who he alleged sold firearms.
Police recovered two unlicensed 9mm pistols with ammunition, and the two suspects were immediately arrested. All three will appear in court on Monday, 30 December 2024, to face charges related to the shooting and illegal firearm possession.
Murder Suspect Nabbed in Tsolo
In another breakthrough, police arrested a 27-year-old man in Lucingweni locality, Tsolo, on Saturday, 28 December 2024, for a recent murder. The suspect was found with an unlicensed 9mm pistol and ammunition. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
Mitchells Plain Raid Uncovers Drugs Worth R1.5 Million
A targeted raid by the Anti-Economic Crimes Task Team on Saturday, 28 December 2024, in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, led to the arrest of four suspects aged 32 to 62. Acting on intelligence, officers searched the residence at 14:00, discovering a prohibited firearm, ammunition, and drugs valued at an estimated R1.5 million.
The suspects were charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, ammunition, and dealing in drugs. They will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court soon.
