North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi has commended the Department of Human Settlements for the successful completion of the Ruigtesloot Housing Project. During a recent visit to the area, Premier Mokgosi, along with MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Gaoage Oageng Molapisi, and Moretele Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr George Manyeke, officially handed over keys to two beneficiaries.

The project, which aims to replace inadequate housing in Ruigtesloot, brings much-needed relief to a community long plagued by poor living conditions. The village, known for its shack dwellers and mud houses, has faced recurring incidents of floods and strong winds since 2014, putting residents at risk.

Premier Mokgosi hailed the development as a significant step towards restoring dignity and safety for residents. “The completion of these houses marks remarkable progress and brings us closer to providing better living conditions for our citizens. We urge the beneficiaries to maintain these homes for future generations,” said Mokgosi.

MEC Molapisi echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of the project in restoring dignity to families in the village. “We are grateful to see community members celebrating the fruits of the government’s efforts. We remain committed to providing human settlements that uplift our people,” he said.

Among the beneficiaries, John Madoba, a father of two, expressed gratitude for his new home, explaining how years of financial struggles had made it impossible to build a proper household. “This moment restores my dignity as a father. I am proud to finally own a home,” said Madoba.

Similarly, Rosina Belman, who has been caring for her grandchildren in a small, dilapidated house, was overjoyed. “My family can now sleep peacefully in a warm household. I am grateful for the government’s efforts to restore our dignity,” she said.
