    Suspect nabbed after trying to sell stolen gas cylinders to its original owner

    Information was followed up after a suspect apparently approached the owner to sell the gas cylinders.  The owner informed the police and he agreed with the suspect to buy the gas cylinders.

    The arrest followed after Nyanga Serious and Violent Crimes Unit acted on information about gas cylinders that were stolen during a hijacking incident on 22 June 2020 in Browns Farm. 

    According to Police, the driver was en-route to Khayelitsha to deliver gas cylinders when he was approached by three suspects who pointed him with a firearm. They robbed his cellular telephone and drove away in the truck with the cylinders. 

    On Wednesday, information was followed up after a suspect apparently approached the owner to sell the gas cylinders.  The owner informed the police and he agreed with the suspect to buy the gas cylinders. The suspect and the complainant were followed to an address in White City where three gas bottles were recovered and the 37-year-old suspect arrested for possession of stolen goods.

    Upon further questioning the suspect took the members to Pollar Park, Khikhi, Gugulethu where a woman was taken in for questioning after leading the members to a residence where another 17 gas cylinders were recovered.

    The gas bottles were handed in at Nyanga SAPS as exhibits. A suspect, aged 37 was arrested. Investigations continues, and more arrests are eminent.

    Once charged the suspects is expected to appear in Philippi Magistrate Court for the possession of stolen goods.
