Limpopo, South Africa – The South African Police Service in Northam, Waterberg District, has opened murder and inquest dockets following the discovery of two bodies in a house in Northam on 26 December 2024. The victims, a 33-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were found in a state of advanced decomposition.

The two individuals, who were in a romantic relationship and living together, were last seen on 25 December 2024 at approximately 23:45 at a local tavern. The investigation is still in its early stages, and while a domestic dispute is being considered as a possible motive, authorities have not ruled out other factors.

The woman is believed to be from Lesotho, and the identities of both individuals will be confirmed once official procedures are completed.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, expressed her concern over the incident and urged individuals in troubled relationships to seek professional assistance to prevent further tragedies. “We encourage those in romantic relationships facing challenges to seek assistance to prevent tragic outcomes,” said Hadebe. Police investigations are ongoing.

In a separate case, the South African Police Service in Sekgosese has launched a manhunt following the discovery of a body in Mamaila village on 27 December 2024. The victim, a 40-year-old man from Raphahlelo in Sekgosese village, was found by members of the community.

The police discovered that the victim’s throat was cut. His little finger and private parts were also removed.

Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the crime but are exploring all possible leads.

Lieutenant General Hadebe condemned the incident, stating that while the exact motive is still unclear, investigators are exploring all avenues, including the possibility of ritual-related motives. “We will not rest until the suspects are apprehended. We call on the community to assist with any information that may help in the investigation,” she said.

Police continue to work diligently to bring those responsible to justice, and community members are encouraged to come forward with any information that could aid in solving the case.
