South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has described Youth unemployment in the Country as a national crisis.
Ramaphosa was addressing the 1976 Youth Uprising commemoration held 16 June 2019 at Limpopo, Polokwane Cricket Club.
Unemployment in South Africa continue to rise and as at May 2019, the figure stands at 27.6% according to the official data from Statistics South Africa.
An expanded category of unemployment, including people who have stopped looking for work, rose to 38% in the first quarter from 37.0% in the previous three-month period.
Ramaphosa has furthermore described the frustration of youth in finding employment despite possessing degrees and certificates from institutions of higher learning, as a stain in the country’s conscience.
