The DA in Mpumalanga says it will write to the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee for CoGTA, P Ngubeni and ask her to review indigent policies in Mpumalanga.
The party has accused the governing ANC of diverting money meant to uplift poor communities to paying off debt created through gross financial mismanagement.
In a statement released by the Mpumalanga DA Provincial leader, Jane Sithole, the party says that indigent services in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality have been reduced from 45 132 to 5919 households in the 2017/18 financial year.
Support to indigent families has also been reduced in Nkomazi, Dipaleseng and Mkhondo Local Municipalities, forcing the poor to choose between buying food or paying for the provision of basic water, electricity, sanitation and refuse.
