One of South Africa’s infamous brothers, Ajay Gupta of the controversial Gupta family is considered a fugitive by the police’s Directorate of Priority Crime Investigations [The Hawks].
The police went to the Gupta mansion in Saxonwold; Johannesburg, South Africa to serve the warrants in connection with pending charges relating to allegations of fraud and corruption over the Estina Farm Community Project.
The police were assured by the occupants that a message to Mr A Gupta alerting him that he is being sought on warrant will be delivered to him as he had stepped out of the home prior to police arrival.
The police wait proved to be in vain and as per the statement released by the Ministry of Police, the Hawks made further contact with Ajay Gupta’s attorneys to assist on his presentation to the Hawks offices. Still no Ajay.
Having satisfied ourselves that Mr Ajay Gupta is surely fully aware by now that SAPS is interested on his presentation to court and he has failed to do so – it is prudent he be declared on flight and he is now a fugitive from the law.
The police ministry has further directed police to make sure that Ajay and other suspects are not smuggled out of South Africa’s borders. The minister has indicated that they are working with regional authorities in what he said is Ajay’s ‘take-down operation’ vowing that Ajay can run but he cannot hide.
